  • 1/2 cup shortening (Crisco)
  • 6 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and prepare three 6-inch cake pans with butter, flour, and parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the cake flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda; set aside.
  3. In another bowl, combine milk, sour cream, and vanilla; set aside.
  4. Beat butter and sugar in a mixer until smooth. Gradually add egg whites while mixing until fully incorporated.
  5. Alternate adding dry and wet ingredients to the batter until just combined—do not overmix!
  6. Divide the batter evenly into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
