  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 5 oz bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • Black gel icing color
  • Red gel icing color
  • 2 1/4 cups unsalted butter
  • 8 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup natural unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 57 tbsp water
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Black gel icing color
  • 4 oz red candy melts
  • 2 tbsp heavy whipping cream
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round baking pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream unsalted butter, vegetable oil, sugar, and vanilla extract until fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time and mix in buttermilk until combined.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Melt bittersweet chocolate and allow it to cool slightly; mix into half of the batter with black gel icing color.
  7. Spoon batters alternately into prepared pans and swirl together for marbling.
  8. Bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean; cool before frosting.
